China will continue actions on protecting the environment and biodiversity, according to the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) at a regular press conference on Monday.

Liu Youbin, spokesperson for the MEE, introduced a newly-published document of opinions on tackling and controlling air pollution which were jointly issued by the MEE and other 14 departments. The opinions includes three action plans on air pollution, ozone pollution and diesel truck emission pollution, and address the goals, ideas and specific tasks for fighting against these types of pollution.

Cui Shuhong, head of MEE's Department of Nature and Ecology Conservation, also introduced the process of the Green Shield campaign, which was first launched in 2017, aiming at cracking down on illegal activities in nature reserves and safeguarding national ecological security. Cui pointed out, by the end of 2021, the campaign basically reversed the trend of encroachment and destruction from protected natural areas, adding the government and local authorities will keep the campaign going to protect natural reserves from being destructed by human activities.
