Mauna Loa, the world's largest active volcano, erupted on Sunday night after almost 40 years of silence. The U.S. Geological Service said lava flow remained confined to the summit caldera, currently with no threats to downslope communities. The volcano alert level was upgraded from an "advisory" to a "warning."
