China established its automobile standardization institute on Monday in north China's Tianjin Municipality, making it the country's first scientific research institution specializing in automobile standardization, according to China Media Group (CMG).

CMG said that the newly-established institute would cover national and industrial standards in automotive field, and participate, on behalf of China, in the coordination and formulation of regulations of the United Nations and other international automobile standards.

The institute will focus on the standardization research of more than 10 forward-looking technologies, and formulate over 80 new standards, it added.

An Tiecheng, chairman of the China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd., said that they would accelerate the formulation of new standards in key areas like autonomous driving, cyber security, electric vehicle safety and fuel cells.

The institute also plans to formulate 15 international automobile standards with countries well developed in the automobile industry and countries along the Belt and Road route, according to CMG.
