Several entrepreneurs and former officials from China and Japan discussed ways to deepen their cooperation in emerging industries such as semiconductors and new-energy vehicles on Monday.
It was the eighth round of such talks. Participants included ex-government officials such as former Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan and Japan's former Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, along with business leaders and scholars.
"China is ready to work with Japan to boost cooperation in emerging industries such as semiconductors, new-energy vehicles, and biomedicine," said Bi Jingquan, executive vice chair of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges.
He also expressed China's willingness to deepen international cooperation in digital transformation, energy and climate change, healthcare, elderly care, and people-to-people cultural exchanges.
"China hopes to work with Japan to maintain the stability of global industrial and supply chains," he added.
One of the Japanese representatives said that the two countries should continue to deepen multi-faceted economic and trade cooperation, achieve mutual benefit and converging interests, and play their respective roles in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, promoting global economic recovery and maintaining the stability of industrial and supply chains.
The representative added that the two sides should make full use of the platform of people-to-people exchanges to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, implement the consensus and contribute to the further development of bilateral relations over the next 50 years.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan relations. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held their first official meeting in Bangkok on November 17. The two sides have vowed to enhance political trust and advance practical cooperation to build stable and constructive bilateral relations that meet the demands of the new era.
