According to the latest monitoring of Yunnan Dashanbao Black-necked Crane National Nature Reserve, as of November 27, the number of black-necked cranes arriving in the reserve for wintering reached 2,260, setting the highest record since the reserve was established in 1990.
The black-necked crane is a class one national protected wildlife. Located in Zhaoyang District, Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province, Dashanbao Black-necked Crane National Nature Reserve is a wonderland with the largest number of Black-necked Cranes distributed per unit area in China. Since the establishment of the reserve, it has gradually become the most important wintering habitat for black-necked cranes on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.
"Last year, up to 1,926 black-necked cranes wintered in the Dashanbao Nature Reserve," said Wu Taiping, an engineer with the Yunnan Dashanbao Black-necked Crane National Nature Reserve Management Bureau. This year, wintering black-necked cranes flew into the reserve on October 31, and since then the number of black-necked cranes arriving in the reserve each day has steadily increased.
In recent years, Yunnan Dashanbao Black-necked Crane National Nature Reserve has been actively implementing wetland protection and restoration, wetland eco-efficiency compensation, food source base construction and conservation measures to ensure the safety of the wintering habitat of Black-necked Cranes and other migratory birds. In the past three years, the number of black-necked cranes arriving at the reserve for wintering has remained above 1,500, and the number and species of other wintering migratory birds have been steadily increasing.
