A 500-kilovolt power transmission project connects east China's Jiangsu Province and Shanghai Municipality finished its wiring process on Thursday across the Yangtze River, the longest river in Asia, according to China Media Group (CMG).

Supplying electricity from the Haimen District, Nantong City in Jiangsu Province to Chongming District in Shanghai, the power transmission would be a key transmission channel for energy integration in the Yangtze River Delta, said CMG.

The total length of the Yangtze River crossing is 2,894 meters, the height of the crossing tower is 204 meters, and the weight of the tower is more than 1,360 tonnes, almost three to four times that of the transmission lines of the same voltage level.

The project is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2023. Once operational, it will raise the power supply of Chongming Island, the country's third largest island, from 220 kilovolts to 500 kilovolts, and increase 740,000 kilowatts of power supply capacity, according to CMG.
