Former U.S. National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden has taken an oath and been granted a Russian passport, TASS news agency reported on Friday citing his lawyer Anatoly Kucherena.
"Yes, he received a passport. He took the oath," Kucherena said, adding that he personally met with Snowden on Thursday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree in September granting Russian citizenship to Snowden.
Snowden is wanted by the United States on charges of espionage and theft of government property. He has been taking refuge in Russia since 2013 and received a permanent residency permit in the country in October 2020.
