Guangdong Province has built 101 nature education trails with a total length of 176.4 kilometers, of which 22 have birdwatching themes.

The trails can be found in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and coastal wetlands such as Shaoguan and are open to the public for free.

Since October, a large number of migratory birds such as black-faced spoonbills, Eurasian spoonbills, black-winged stil and black-tailed godwit have arrived in Guangdong, and many parents have taken their children to an nature education trail for birdwatching.

In Guangzhou Haizhu wetland, there are three free telescopes and a number of nature education interpretation signs to allow the close observation of hundreds of herons inhabiting Haizhu Lake.

"Currently, each birdwatching nature education trail in Guangdong Province is located in an ecologically superior area and combined with local natural resources to design a unique birdwatching experience course that integrates seeing, hearing, smelling, touching and interacting. With the help of professional birdwatching telescopes and other facilities, the public can observe the behavior of birds in their natural state, such as feeding, egg laying and breeding in three dimensions, so as to achieve the purpose of knowing birds, protecting animals and enjoying nature," an official from the Forestry Administration of Guangdong Province said.

Birdwatching allows young people to get close to nature and feel the spiritual habitat. In recent years, Guangdong has built ecological corridors for waterfowl and biodiversity conservation networks, and has constructed a large number of wetland parks which have won strong public approval.
