Shanghai authorities scrapped COVID-19 test requirement for transportation and outdoor public venues, according to the city's designated working group for local epidemic prevention and control on Sunday.

According to the new policy, Shanghai residents will no longer need negative COVID-19 test results before taking public transportation services including the subway, buses and ferries.

It will be also applied to outdoor public places such as parks and scenic spots. Before the policy announced, the city required a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of entering public places or using public transport.

The policy will be put into effect starting on Monday.

The municipality added it will continue to adjust COVID-19 measures according to the local situation, and urged people to follow health guidelines in place such as wearing masks, keeping social distance and getting vaccines to protect themselves from the virus.
