Kylian Mbappe scored two goals to help France beat Poland 3-1 in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 game in Qatar on Sunday. The second was his ninth goal in two editions of the World Cup. By contrast, it took Lionel Messi five tournaments to get to nine goals. Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal has played five World Cups and scored eight goals.
The last time the reigning World Cup champions, France, reached the final game in the following edition of the tournament was Argentina in 1986 and 1990. France are on the way to repeat that.
England defeated Senegal 3-0 in the other Round of 16 game on Sunday night. The "Three Lions" were a master in controlling the pace of the game. They knew when to slow down to leave no chance for the opponents and when to speed up to catch Senegal off guard.
England and France will play each other in the quarterfinal game on December 11.
