China retained its "A++" rating for global governance in a report released on Saturday.

The report, titled "States' Participation Index of Global Governance 2022 Report," was jointly published by the Institute of Political Science at East China University of Political Science and Law, and the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies, China International Communication Group, at a press conference.

The report, themed "China's Engagement in Global Governance: A Glorious Decade," summarizes the history of China's engagement in global governance as wells as its achievements and significant contributions since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in November 2012.

The index consists of four major criteria – mechanism, performance, decision and responsibility – each of which includes numerous indicators, with the aim of objectively measuring and evaluating the degrees to which 189 states worldwide participate and contribute to global governance based on data collected.

Based on a systematic investigation into 189 states' participation into global governance in 2021 – the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic – the report concluded that China, the United States and France retained their "A++" places, positioning them in the top ranking of global governance.

Noting that an imbalanced recovery influenced each country's global governance capabilities, the report contended that while regional and global powers further strengthened their dominance, the most developing and less developed countries are likely to become more alienated from global governance.

The regions exerting least influence in global governance are West and Central Asia, while the regions exerting most influence remain concentrated in Western Europe, North America and China in Asia, according to the report.

The annual report, the ninth since 2014, presents a systematic evaluation of each state's participation in global governance through a year.
