Around 3,330 hectares of desert around Aral City at the northern edge of the Taklamakan Desert in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was afforested using aerial reforestation recently. Over the next five years, the local authorities plan to increase aerial reforestation to afforest 20,000 hectares of desert.
