Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Tuesday said China's development cannot be achieved without the world, and the world also needs China for its prosperity.

Mao made the remarks at a regular press briefing when asked to comment on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's remarks relating to China in his recent op-ed piece published by Foreign Affairs magazine.

Scholz said "China's rise does not warrant isolating Beijing or curbing cooperation." He also did not subscribe to the view that the world is on the brink of a new Cold War that will pit the U.S. against China.

Noting the Chinese side has taken note of Prime Minister Scholz's relevant statement, Mao stressed China has always adhered to the purpose of its foreign policy of safeguarding world peace and promoting common development, unswervingly developed friendly cooperation with other countries.

Facts have proved that China's development adds to the momentum for world peace and also a driving force and an opportunity for global development, she added.

"Isolating China and limiting cooperation with China is not in the interest of any party," said the spokesperson.

Mao also pointed out that the trend of economic globalization in today's world is irreversible and mutual benefit and win-win situation is the people's desire, adding China has been deeply integrated with the world economy and the international system.

Mao believes that the world will never fall back into isolation and division. "No country can afford to pursue development with its door closed."

China will continue to expand high-level opening-up and work with all countries to share the development opportunities, she said.
