The Philadelphia Phillies acquired free agent shortstop (SS) Trea Turner on an 11-year, $300 million contract, according to ESPN on Monday.

Turner's deal includes a full no-trade clause and is MLB's 10th 300+ million contract. Four of those deals went to shortstops Francisco Lindor of the New York Mets, Fernando Tatis Jr. of the San Diego Padres, Corey Seager of the Texas Rangers and Turner.

Having played 160 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, Turner hit a batting average of 0.298, an on-base percentage of 0.343 and a slugging percentage of 0.466 with 100 runs batted in, 27 home runs and 27 stolen bases. He was selected in the All-Star Game for the second straight year, the All-MLB First Team for the first time and won his first Silver Slugger Award.

Turner will join his former Washington Nationals teammate right fielder Bryce Harper in the Phillies. The team upset a series of opponents in the playoffs last season to reach the World Series before losing to the Houston Astros 4-2. Signing Turner on such a juicy deal will add another player who makes over $20 million to the Phillies' squad next season. Harper, left fielder Kyle Schwarber, first baseman J.T. Realmuto, pitcher Zack Wheeler and outfielder Nick Castellanos are already waiting for Turner in that league.

The winter meetings in San Diego created a good opportunity for the MLB teams to sign top-performing free agents for franchise enhancements. Before the Phillies landed Turner, the Mets had already reached a two-year, $86.66 million contract with pitcher Justin Verlander, who played for the Astros last season.

There are still multiple big fish available on the free agency market, including outfielders Aaron Judge and Brandon Nimmo, shortstops Carlos Correa, Dansby Swanson, Xander Bogaerts and pitcher Carlos Rodon. It means a lot of big checks will be inked.
