China has pledged to stabilize economic growth, bolster domestic demand and optimize pandemic-control measures to promote high-quality growth in 2023.

The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee held a meeting on Tuesday to analyze the economic work for 2023 and related tasks.

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the meeting.

The meeting pointed out that in the next year, China will adhere to the strategy of seeking progress while stabilizing economic growth and continue to implement a proactive fiscal policy and a prudent monetary policy. The country will strengthen policy coordination and optimize the pandemic-control measures in promoting high-quality development.

China's third-quarter GDP grew by a better than expected 3.9 percent compared with a year earlier, despite headwinds as the country deployed a slew of measures to shore up the economy.

Expanding domestic demand in the coming year was stressed at the conference. China will let consumption play the fundamental role in driving economic growth while effective investment plays a key role. It also called on accelerating the construction of a modern industrial system and improving the resilience and security of the industrial and supply chain.

China will promote deeper-level reform and pursue higher-level opening up and make more efforts to attract foreign capital, according to the statement from the meeting. It intends to bolster market confidence, integrating expanding demand with supply-side reform and focusing on stabilizing growth, employment, and prices.

The country will continue to effectively control risks and guard the bottom line against systemic risk. It aims to promote the overall improvement of economic operations by sustaining improvement in quality and reasonable growth in quantity.

The meeting also heard a report of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission and made plans for the anti-corruption work for 2023.
