The European Union on Thursday approved Croatia to the Schengen Area without internal border controls.

Croatia will become a part of the EU's Schengen Area as of January 1, 2023, the Czech presidency tweeted.

The decision was made at an EU home affairs ministers' meeting in Brussels.

The Schengen Area is the largest free-travel area in the world, comprising 22 EU countries and four associated non-EU countries.
