Local temperatures have dropped to minus 20 degrees Celsius in Bortala in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Despite the freezing weather, police officers from the local immigration inspection station have been patrolling the border area along Alatao Mountain. Their job is to safeguard national sovereignty, carry out exit-entry inspections and ensure public security at the border.
