Gareth Southgate, manager of England, revealed that he hasn't decided if he will stay in the position after the 2-1 loss to France in the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals in Qatar on Saturday.
"The energy it takes through these tournaments is enormous. I want to make the right decision, whatever that is for the team, for England, for the FA," Southgate said. "I've got to be sure whatever decision I make is the right one. I think it's right to take time to do that because I know in the past my feelings have fluctuated in the immediate aftermath of tournaments."

Despite the loss, England did a good job of containing Kylian Mbappe, who had been nearly unstoppable in the previous games in Qatar. If Harry Kane hadn't missed his second penalty, it's hard to say which team would have won in the end.
"I think whenever I finish these tournaments, I've needed time to make correct decisions. Emotionally you go through so many different feelings," Southgate said. He also defended Kane. "As you'd expect, he's very, very low but he's got nothing to reproach himself for. We're in the position we are as a team because of his leadership, because of his goals over a long period of time," he added.
Southgate's contract with the FA goes until 2024 and the team will begin the qualification tournament for the 2024 UEFA European Championship next March. The rise of the young generation, including Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden, gave both the team and their fans reason to have faith in England's future.

"Of course, not perfect and there were mistakes at both ends which decide the outcome of the game. But I think we've once again shown the rest of the world that English football is healthy, we've got some very good players not only now but for the future as well," Southgate said.
Having taken over the English national team in late 2016, Southgate led them to finish fourth in the World Cup in 2018 and runners-up in the European Championship last year. Both were long-awaited highs for the team.
