While the FIFA World Cup in Qatar is still a week away from ending, European clubs have been busy preparing for the resumption of the 20223-23 season. The Premier League campaign will come back earlier than others, leaving their teams in bigger urgency of doing their work.

Manchester United, which already parted ways which their Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo, will look for his replacement during the winter transfer window in January 2023, according to their manager Erik ten Hag.

"Yes, but only when we find the right player," ten Hag said when asked if they are searching for a striker. "We will do everything in our power. We are doing research at every opportunity and we will do everything we can (to sign them) if that opportunity is there."

There are two players reportedly on the "Red Devils'" radar: Goncalo Ramos of Benfica and Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven. Ramos replaced Ronaldo in Portugal's starting lineup from the World Cup knockout stage and scored a hat trick in their 6-1 win over Switzerland in the Round of 16 game. Gakpo scored three goals for the Netherlands.

"I cannot give comments on specific players. I will never do that. Players have contracts and I respect that but be sure we are working in the background to get the right players in," ten Hag said.

Man United won't count on only the transfer market to enhance their squad, especially when Anthony Martial, who cost the team 60 million euros (about $63.2 million) six years ago to acquire, is about to return from injury. In the seven games he played for the franchise, he scored four goals and two assists.

"We have seen that when he is available he has a massive impact on our game. He has 350 minutes, four goals and two assists. That's a really good record," ten Hag said of Martial. "In the past maybe it was something he did wrong, I don’t know, but now it was also bad luck and you come in a process from injuries and now we have to stop the process and we get him and he gets himself in a better position so that he's fit and available. For his game and development and progress it would be great."

Having finished their 14 games in the Premier League with eight wins, two draws and four losses, Man United are fifth on the standings table with 26 points. The winter transfer window will open on January 1, 2023, for the Premier League, Bundesliga and Ligue 1, and January 3, 2023 for La Liga and Serie A, before closing for all on January 31, 2023.
