Golden mussels: Small but powerful threat

Golden mussels are smaller than a grape, but it's one of the biggest threats to Brazil now. It is an invasive species that's now found in almost all Brazilian regions, except the north. It affects fish farms, reservoirs, and these mussels have infiltrated one of Brazil's key infrastructures – hydropower plants. As much as 70 percent of Brazil's electricity comes from hydropower. Chinese and Brazilian scientists have come together to eradicate these golden invaders once and for all – with the use of genetic engineering.
