December 13 marks the 85th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre, which took place in 1937. During the six-week massacre, the Japanese invaders brutally killed about 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers.
A memorial ceremony is underway at the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders to remember the victims of Japanese aggression during World War II. In 2014, China's top legislature designated December 13 as the national memorial day for the victims of the Nanjing Massacre to keep the darkest history firmly in mind and cherish the hard-won peace.
