China, GCC states agree to strengthen strategic partnership

Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the China-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and delivered a keynote speech titled "Building on Past Achievements and Jointly Creating a Brighter Future of China-GCC Relations" in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on December 9. Xi proposed five major areas for cooperation in the next three to five years, including energy, finance and investment, innovation and new technologies, aerospace, and language and cultures.

The GCC comprises six Arab countries, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman. In a joint statement issued following the China-GCC summit, the leaders of both sides stressed the importance of taking their strategic partnership into a new era in fields such as politics, economy and culture.
