Peru has declared a nationwide state of emergency for 30 days in response to ongoing protests across the country. It temporarily suspends the right to assembly and freedom of movement. The political unrest was sparked by the ouster of former President Pedro Castillo on December 7th. Seven people have died in the protests that have spread from north to south.
