At least 21 dead, 12 more feared trapped in Malaysia landslide

At least 21 people have been killed in a landslide that struck a camping site in Batang Kali in Selangor, Malaysia, on early Friday morning, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said on Friday.

And 12 more people are feared still buried under the mudslide.

Zahid told media that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will also make an announcement regarding aid for all affected victims. 

Director of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Datuk Norazam Khamis said the fire brigade received an emergency call at 2:24 a.m. and arrived at the scene at about 3 a.m.

A search and rescue operation is ongoing.

Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming said the camping site had been running without the relevant operating license, Channel News Asia reported.
