China and the European Union (EU) should work together to keep industrial and supply chains stable and unimpeded, while rejecting decoupling and protectionism in the name of security, Fu Cong, head of the Chinese Mission to the EU said on Thursday.

Speaking at the fifth China-EU CEO and Former Senior Officials' Dialogue, Fu said China made it clear during the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China that it would ensure the continuity and stability of its internal and external policies in the long term, adhering to its socialist market economy reform and high-standard opening-up.

China remained committed to the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership and expected the EU to be an important partner on the Chinese path to modernization, sharing the opportunities provided by China's mega market and opening-up policy, and deepening international cooperation, Fu noted.

He stressed that China has long been the most important trading partner of the EU, and is also the main growth market for many European enterprises.

Enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation is in line with the common interests of China and the EU, and is also the call of the business community on both sides, Fu added.

He said economic and trade cooperation between China and the EU abides by market rules and mutual benefits, generating a strong economic symbiosis with hard-earned achievements.

China understands the European side's concern about economic resilience, Fu noted, adding it opposes interference in normal economic and trade exchanges by reason of political factors, especially ideological factors.
