China's meteorological authority again issued a blue alert for a cold wave on Saturday, forecasting big temperature drops and gales across large areas of the country. The cold wave continues to sweep southward. Some regions including northern Yunnan Province and southeastern Fujian Province are expected to see temperature slashed by over 10 degrees Celsius in the following two days.
Under the influence of the strong cold air, areas including northwest China, the central and western part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and parts of north China saw strong winds on Friday. Temperatures in some regions including the eastern part of northwest China, most part of Shanxi, southern Anhui, central and southern Jiangsu and Shanghai are expected to plunge 6 to 10 degrees Celsius.
The cold wave was in full swing starting from Friday. The minimum temperature in Shanghai, eastern Zhejiang, eastern and southern Fujian, eastern and southern Guangdong will be close to or lower than the historical minimum temperature during the same period.
In terms of precipitation, the cold wave brought little precipitation and snow this time. North China saw decreasing rain and snow while south China still experienced widespread precipitation on Friday. The precipitation scale in south China is expected to decrease on Saturday.
China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red being the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
