China's Qin takes bronze, 3 world records set at FINA World Championships

China's Qing Haiyang finished third in the men's 200m breaststroke at the swimming World Championships (25m) in Melbourne, Australia on Friday, clocking 2:02.22. Meanwhile, new world records were set in the mixed 4x50 freestyle relay, women's 50m backstroke and men's 4x200m freestyle relay.

Qin won bronze behind Japan's Daiya Seto in 2:00.35 and Nic Fink of the USA in 2:01.60.

France lifted the mixed relay record in 1:27.33 to win gold, followed by Australia and the Netherlands.

Margaret MacNeil, Canada's Olympic champion, broke her own world record in the women's 50m backstroke to win in 25.25 seconds. 

The third world record of the day went to the USA who took gold in 6:44.12 in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay event, followed by Australia and Italy who rounded out the podium in 6:46.54 and 6:49.63, respectively.

Also on Friday, Kate Douglass of USA set a new championship record in the women's 200m breaststroke in 2:15.77. Chinese youngster Tang Qianting finished fifth.

In the women's 1,500m freestyle, Australia's Lani Pallister took gold in 15:21.43, followed by Japan's Miyu Namba and Kensey McMahon of the USA. 

In the men's 50m backstroke, which was re-swum due to a technical error at the start the first time, Ryan Murphy of the USA won gold in 22.64, followed by Australia's Isaac Alan Cooper and Poland's Kacper Stokowski.

In the 100m individual medley, Marrit Steenbergen of the Netherlands took the women's title and Italy's Thomas Ceccon won the men's.
