Chinese basketball icon Yao Ming was re-elected as Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) president during an online conference of the association on Saturday.

Yao, 42, first took the position in 2017 and has been in charge of CBA since.

Retired in 2011, Yao started his career as a player in 1997. He split his time between Chinese men's basketball team and clubs including the Shanghai Sharks and Houston Rockets after he was drafted in the NBA in 2002.

Yao led Team China to the quarterfinal at the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008, and was selected into the NBA All-Star Game eight times in his nine years with the Rockets.

He was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 2016, with his Number 11 jersey retired by the Rockets a year later.
