The death toll from an oil tanker blast in a tunnel in Afghanistan's eastern Parwan province reached 19, Abdullah Afghanmal, a senior health official in Parwan, said on Sunday.
Afghanmal told media that 19 dead bodies and 32 injured people from the blast had been taken to hospitals in the provincial capital Charikar and nearby health centers.
Earlier, spokesperson for the Public Work Ministry Mawlawi Hamidullah Misbah counted 12 dead and 37 injured from the blast.
Misbah said the incident happened at around 6:30 p.m. local time in the Salang Tunnel when a fuel truck overturned and caught fire, and the fire was extinguished at around 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, according to local television channel Tolonews.
Salang Tunnel, about 3,400 meters above sea level, connects Afghanistan's capital Kabul to the northern eight provinces.
