Chinese health authorities say the dominant strains in China are now mainly BA.5.2 and BF.7. As China sees a rise in infections, experts have warned new strains of the virus could still emerge.

CGTN's Feng Yilei spoke to Dr. Jonathan Stoye, a virologist at the Francis Crick Institute in London. Dr. Stoye agrees the Omicron variant causes milder symptoms but remains a serious concern for vulnerable populations. He says the world should be alert to possible new strains of the coronavirus.
