Fijian President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere approved on Monday the list of members of the new parliament submitted by the Electoral Commission, local media reported.

The Electoral Commission has officially made seat allocations following the conclusion of the 2022 General Election. Fiji's ruling party FijiFirst has 26 seats, the main opposition People's Alliance Party (PA) has 21, the National Federation Party is on five and the Social Democratic Liberal Party has three.

FijiFirst led Wednesday's general election, with 200,246 votes retained, according to authorities, followed by PA with 168,581 votes.

According to the final results, Fiji's Prime Minister and FijiFirst Leader Voreqe Bainimarama received the most votes: 136,829.

As no party has an absolute majority to claim victory in the general election, a coalition is required to form the next government.

The Social Democratic Liberal Party said it will make a final decision on Monday on who it will work with to form the next government.
