Beijing ranks 3rd in Global Innovation Hubs Index 2022

Beijing has upgraded its ranking to the third place, its highest ever, as a Global Innovation Hub, according to the Global Innovation Hubs Index (GIHI) 2022. 

The report was published on Sunday by Tsinghua University's Center for Industrial Development and Environmental Governance in association with Nature Research. 

According to the new lists, Beijing has overtaken London for the first time and China's Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Shanghai rank sixth and 10th, respectively. 

The GIHI2022 evaluates the innovation capacity of 100 cities or metropolitan areas in the world through 31 indicators in three dimensions known as research innovation, innovation economy and innovation ecosystem, reflecting the changing trend of the global innovation landscape and the innovation performance of major cities. 

The GIHI2022 top 10 cities or metropolitan areas overall are San Francisco-San Jose, New York, Beijing, London, Boston, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Tokyo, Geneva, Paris and Shanghai.
