The gorgeous scenery at the beginning is the "sunshine through the Seventeen Arch Bridge at the Summer Palace in Beijing." Every year around the winter solstice, the twilight shines through the Seventeen Arch Bridge and all the arches get illuminated by the sun's soft rays. In this episode, I want to make a simple lamp covered with calligraphy. Click the video and find out more.

Winter solstice, also known as "Dong Zhi" in Chinese, is the 22nd solar term on the Chinese lunar calendar, which falls on December 22 this year.

The winter solstice is a significant time of year in many cultures and is marked by festivals and rituals. The day sees the shortest daytime and the longest night in the Northern hemisphere. The Chinese have an old saying: "Dong Zhi is as significant as the Spring Festival," and this dates back to before the Qin Dynasty (1046-207 B.C.) when the ancient Chinese celebrated the day as the beginning of a new year.

How do you spend winter solstice in your area? What's your favorite food for a family feast? Please leave your comments, and hope to see you again in my next episode.
