A policeman was killed and five others including three policemen injured in a suicide attack on Friday morning, Islamabad police said in a statement.

The incident happened in Pakistan's capital Islamabad when a suicide bomber driving a car blew himself up after being stopped by the police for checking, the statement said.

Security in the capital was on high alert, as all suspicious vehicles were being checked, the statement added.

The banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
