The Thorold's deer practices visiting marriage. For most of the year, stags form their own herd while does and fawns stick together. The two groups hardly interact with each other. From September to November, the Thorold's deer usher in their breeding season. The stags and does gather into a mixed group. This community has nearly 40 does who are about to breed their young. They intend to deliver before the end of the year.

Deer, one of the most beautiful herbivores on the planet, often appear in poems, tales and mythology. On the plateau of Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China's Sichuan Province, different deer species like the forest musk deer, the Thorold's deer and the sambar can be seen roaming freely in the forests.
