China hosted the Winter Olympics and Paralympics earlier this year with great success, making Beijing the only city in the world to host both the summer and winter Olympics. Along the way to making Beijing a "dual Olympic" city, China also fulfilled its commitment to get over 300 million Chinese people to participate in winter sports.

Carlos Alcaraz claimed his first Grand Slam title at the U.S. Open, making the 19-year-old Spanish player the youngest world No.1 since the ATP rankings began in 1973.

Seventeen-year-old American Ilia Malinin became the first man to land the quadruple Axel, widely regarded as the most difficult jump in the sport, in competition at the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic in September.

The Women's Tennis Association named China's Zheng Qinwen the 2022 Newcomer of the Year after the young sensation, who started her season ranked No. 143, broke into the top 27. The 20-year-old reached her first WTA 500 final at the Pan Pacific Open after an impressive run at Roland Garros, where she stunned two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep of Romania and French veteran Alize Cornet en route to the last 16.

China's diving "Dream Team" did not let their fans down, as they once again achieved flawless results this year. They swept all 13 gold medals at the 2022 FINA World Championships in Budapest in July and took home titles in all eight Olympic events at the FINA Diving World Cup in Germany three months later.

China's first-ever F1 driver Zhou Guanyu signed a contract extension agreement with Alfa Romeo after scoring six points from 16 races in his rookie year. The 23-year-old Zhou finished 10th in his F1 debut in Bahrain to score his first-ever Grand Prix point in March and took a strong eighth place in the Canadian Grand Prix, achieving his best finish this season.
