Suspected drones from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) have crossed the inter-Korean border without permission, Yonhap news agency reported Monday citing the South Korean military.

The South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said it detected multiple "unidentified objects," presumed to be unmanned aerial vehicles, in border areas of Gyeonggi Province from 10:25 a.m.

It said the vehicles flew across the military demarcation line (MDL) and were spotted flying in those areas in Gimpo, Ganghwa Island and Paju.

Yonhap news agency also reported that a drone seems to have approached the sky near the South Korean capital Seoul.

Fighters, attack helicopters and other warplanes were sent by South Korea to get rid of the suspected DPRK drones but the JCS could not confirm whether they carried any weapons.

One of the warplanes, a KA-1 light attack aircraft, later crashed in Hoengseong County for unknown reasons but the two pilots survived, according to Yonhap news agency.

There was no immediate response from Pyongyang.
