At least 17 people have been killed, and 27 others are missing, as heavy rain and flooding pummeled many regions in the Philippines, the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Tuesday.
Most of the deaths were caused by drowning from flash floods after two days of heavy rain disrupted Christmas celebrations and forced more than 45,000 people to take shelter in evacuation centers, the disaster agency said.
Rescue operations are underway and the agricultural damage is being assessed, Carmelito Heray, head of the disaster agency in Clarin town in Misamis Occidental province, told DZBB radio station.
