Crystal-clear icicles hang on trees along the banks of the Songhua River in Jilin City, northeastern China's Jilin Province, covering the landscape in a palette of silver and white.

Every winter, Jilin City welcomes the breathtaking view of rime along a section of the Songhua River that flows through the city. Fog can usually be seen around ten o'clock at night. Usually, the thicker the fog, the more magnificent the rime on the following day.

Rime is a special type of frost, resembling granular tufts of ice, that only occur under certain temperature and humidity conditions. Warm water vapor from the Songhua River meets cold air, creatinh beautiful rime on trees along the river.
