Soaring leaps and the energetic beats of the Ansai waist drum dance made Gao Yuchen, a nine-year-old boy, fall in love with the dance at first sight. Growing up in Ansai, Shaanxi, Gao was first drawn to the large-scale folk dance while watching a local performance. As a form of intangible cultural #heritage, the Ansai waist drum dance was promoted by local authorities and was included as part of his school's PE program. Gao was able to receive waist drum dance training as an extracurricular activity at his school, and he subsequently became a rising star on campus. He says he wants to become a better dancer and hopes to perform on bigger stages.
