China on Wednesday called on South Korea to work together with it to advance a sound and stable relationship between the two neighbors.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin told reporters in Beijing that China and South Korea should jointly contribute to the peace, stability, development and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region.
Wang made the remarks when asked about a regional strategy report issued by the South Korean government earlier Wednesday by a reporter with Yonhap News Agency at a regular press briefing.
In the 43-page document titled "Strategy for a Free, Peaceful, and Prosperous Indo-Pacific Region," the government of President Yoon Suk-yeol described China as "a key partner for achieving prosperity and peace" in the region.
"We will nurture a sounder and more mature relationship as we pursue shared interests based on mutual respect and reciprocity, guided by international norms and rules," read the report.
In response, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson also said China advocates all countries should be united and cooperate with each other to promote regional peace, stability, development and prosperity and reject exclusive cliques, for that is in the common interests of regional countries.
