Sauurdin is a traditional Mongolian dance and is one of China's intangible cultural heritage. Hongmei is one of the few tradition-bearers of the dance, committed to passing down the art. At the age of 13, she was admitted to an art troupe. The next year, she was selected for further studies at the Inner Mongolia Art School. When she graduated, she traveled to the countryside to record and learn Sauurdin, a traditional dance at risk of being lost.
From her early teens to her 70s, Hongmei has not stopped dancing. Even after being diagnosed with breast cancer, she never thought of giving up. Throughout her life, her passion for Sauurdin has remained constant.
