After three years of disruptions, flower markets will resume in the southern city of Guangzhou this Lunar New Year. The return of the festive staple is fueling a sales boom in the city's main flower plantation area, which is also the largest producer of potted plants in China. New varieties with more flowers and longer blooming periods are being developed there to cater to a burgeoning market for home gardening enthusiasts. Besides filling festive demand, the industry is also betting on a return of corporate contracts in the coming months, as hotels, airports and offices welcome post-pandemic makeovers with "an influx of flora".
