China's aviation industry regulator on Friday released air traffic data for 2022 and said the air travel traffic target this year would reach 75 percent of its pre-pandemic levels.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) also said the Chinese airline industry should also strive to break even in 2023, according to a report by CCTV.
In 2022, a total of 250 million passenger flight trips were made, total transported volume reached 59.93 billion tonne-kilometers, while the cargo handling capacity was 6.08 million tonnes. These three metrics have recovered to 38.1 percent, 46.3 percent, and 80.7 percent of their pre-pandemic levels, respectively, the CAAC said.
For the whole of 2023, the CAAC aims for the aviation industry to reach a total of 460 million passenger trips, a total transported volume of 97.6 billion tonne-kilometers, and 6.17 million tonnes of cargo and mail.
