Xiong Biao's father, Xiong Wendong, was one of the first lantern artists in Zigong City in southwest China's Sichuan Province. Their family is among the tradition-bearers of the Zigong lanterns, an intangible cultural heritage in China.
Colored lanterns are a passion and responsibility for them. Many of their lanterns have been exhibited in China and other countries. In 2020, Xiong Wendong passed away, leaving behind his manuscripts and his dreams. This year, Xiong Biao hopes to fulfill his father's wishes by turning his sketches into artwork, bringing Zigong lanterns to the world.
