As Fuhai County in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is blanketed by snow in bone-chilling winter, the fish in the county's Ulungur Lake are at their tastiest with exceptionally delicate flesh.
Winter fishing has a history of over six decades. Locals have turned this traditional practice into a cultural event, attracting tens of thousands of tourists every year. The first carp fish was sold for 428,888 yuan (about $62,700) in an auction during the festival.
