The management of COVID-19 in China was downgraded from Class A to Class B on Sunday, in accordance with the law on the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, a major shift in the country's epidemic response policies. Liang Wannian, head of the COVID-19 response expert panel at China's National Health Commission, explained that the timing of the policy adjustment is directly related to the vaccination of the elderly.
