Star free agent shortstop (SS) Carlos Correa is finalizing a six-year, $200 million contract with the Minnesota Twins, the team he played for in the 2022 MLB season, according to ESPN on Tuesday.
The two sides shall ink the deal after Correa passes a medical review. This already makes the third episode of "Where does Correa go?" after such dramatic developments with the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets during the MLB offseason.
Back in mid-December 2022, Correa first reached a 13-year, $320 million deal with the Giants. However, the team were worried about his recovery after undergoing a surgery to fix his right leg and decided not to sign him in the end. Soon the Mets offered him a 12-year, $315 million contract which he accepted. However, the Mets backed off out of concern over Correa's health as well.

Correa broke his lower right leg when he was playing in the minor league in 2014 but has never been on the injured list for a right leg ailment since he made his major league debut for the Houston Astros in 2015. Though the medical personnel of the Giants and Mets worried about the risk of that old injury in the future, the Twins, according to ESPN, have confidence in Correa.
Correa joined the Twins in 2022 on a three-year, $105.3 million contract with an opt-out after the first season. He hit .291 in batting average, .366 in on-base percentage and .467 in slugging percentage with 22 home runs in 136 games during the 2022 campaign. The team only won 78 games last season and missed the playoffs for the second straight season.
If Correa passes the medical, he will have the second-best annual salary for a shortstop, behind only Francisco Lindor of the Mets. If Correa joins the Mets, he will play on the third base. Moreover, though a lot of absurd contracts were signed during this offseason, Correa’s annual salary of $33.3 million is only lower than that of outfielder Aaron Judge, who returned to the New York Yankees on a nine-year $360 million contract.
