Live: How China's Korean ethnic minority celebrate Little New Year

"Xiao Nian" literally means "Little New Year."  It is usually a week before the Chinese New Year, and falls on Jan 14 this year. It is also known as the Festival of the Kitchen God, the deity that oversees the moral character of each household.

There are numerous customs associated with honoring the Kitchen God and determining the date of Little New Year. The date of this holiday was sometimes assigned according to location, with people in northern China celebrating it on the twenty-third day of the twelfth lunar month, and people in southern China celebrating it on the twenty-fourth.

CGTN's reporter Guan Yang takes you to Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in northeast China's Jilin Province, where a local family will showcase their traditional food and folk music, and dance for the celebration.
