The new Chengdu-Kunming Railway, which runs 915 kilometers from Chengdu in southwest China's Sichuan Province to Kunming in Yunnan Province, entered operation at the end of 2022. It now only takes people 7 hours to travel from Chengdu to Kunming, while it used to take them 19 hours. The railway also goes through Sichuan's Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, the biggest area where Yi people live in China. The new railway has embraced its first Spring Festival travel rush.
